Sometime back I wrote a piece about how to organize a seed swap event, this time round I will talk a little about our own event ‘Another seedy Saturday’ which we are holding on March the 3rd at the Brooklyn Pub on Green Lane in Bolton.
Attractions and stalls at this years event
This years event, aside from the customary swapping of seeds and plants is really about bringing people together for different projects, for example, the event is being used to promote our newly formed group Bolton Permaculture network.
- We are also promoting the work of Transition Towns Bolton whom we wholeheartedly support.
- We have added a rocket stove workshop to this years event, and also a barter and swap table where people attending are encouraged to bring in their own unwanted goods and swap and barter.
- We are also encouraging small home based artisans to have a stall at the event so that we able to support and help the local economy.
- We are in a great position this year where venue is concerned, if it rains, we have the large function room in the upstairs of the Pub, if the weather is fine, we are allowed to hold the event on the large grassed area to the rear of the pub.
For a permanent culture
Holding event like this are sure fire way of promoting a whole series of strategies and practices for a more permanent culture of the future.
Whilst some seed swap events will simply be about swapping seeds and plants, our event is about promoting permaculture, localism, and a sustainable future through learning new skills and forging links.
We also have some limited funding to enable some of the people from our area to aid them in growing their own fruit and vegetables in their yards and gardens, which is something that is very important to us if we are to develop and bring about local and resilient food supply and production systems.
If anyone would like to have a small stall or display for this event, please contact us and we will get back to you very soon, similarly, if you have your own Seed swap event that you would like to promote, please contact us here at Permaculture now and we will promote your event on this website.
