Within learning and education there are various models and pedagogies designed to enhance and bring about a positive learning experience for the student. With a future of profound ecological and economic change developing, we need and educational model that is suited to taking us through these times towards a fairer and more caring world where profit and status have dissolved. As responsible and varing human beings it is our job to ensure that we educate our young so that their learning experience and development are enhanced and perpetuated throughout their lives. Learning in schools, colleges and Universalities set to a curriculum and agenda subsidised by specific industries as is the case with contemporary education needs to change.
Creative learning
Creative learning is one way that we can offer a rounded and holistic developmental form of education that is people centred. Creative learning is based on the idea that we have eight intelligences: linguistic, logic-mathematical, musical, spatial, bodily/kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic. And these intelligences are all separate to each other as opposed to the idea that we have a general intelligence. In creative learning each of these independent forms of intelligence either work alone as they interpret knowledge or link together if needed. In creative learning there are seven core creative competencies which are vital in the any process of learning:
- Power of Observation
- Concentration
- Memory
- Thinking
- Imagination
- Power of Expression Communication
- Emotional Control
Creative learning for a Permanent culture
This process of learning is in operation in India where the Association of creative learning is based in Patna, using this method of learning enables those from the poorest backgrounds to learn in a multi-intelligence environment, this can enable the students to have a more specific and broader learning experience. This model or learning would be useful in that it contains a great deal of flexibility in the different forms of intelligence that it can appeal to and is more rigerous in terms of what the students are able to take in and understand.
